The annual Kariyakali Amman festival is celebrated for fifteen days in the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Aani&amp;#039;&amp;#039; [[Tamil language|Tamil]] month at the temple in the northern part of the village. It starts on a Wednesday with &amp;#039;&amp;#039;poochatu&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;poo midhithal&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (fire walking) before the mother goddess Kariyakali. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Abishekam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (a religious bathing ceremony) and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;pooja&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (offerings and remembrances to the dead) are also performed. The festival ends with the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;manjal neerattu&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, the [[turmeric]] dousing ceremony. It begins on the first Wednesday in the Tamil month of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Panguni&amp;#039;&amp;#039; with the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Poochatu&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Holy water is later brought from Cauvery river to the temple and offered to the goddess Muthumari. It ends with &amp;#039;&amp;#039;abishekam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;pooja&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and [[Pongal (dish)|pongal]] (a special rice dish) being offered to the mother goddess. In the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;mavalukku&amp;#039;&amp;#039; procession, the people carry raw rice flour paste and flowers on a plate on their heads.
