Kaur was born in [[Lahore]], back then part of [[British India]], into a [[Punjabi people|Punjabi]]-[[Sikh]] family. She is the elder sister of [[Surinder Kaur]], famous [[Punjabi language|Punjabi]] singer-songwriter.
