The selected plot was marked as a tank in the Town Planning Scheme of 1940s.<ref name=Landscape/> It was low-laying and frequently waterlogged, forming a pond. There was an old [[banyan]] tree in the centre. There were many [[mango trees]] around the area which gives neighbourhood its name Ambawadi.{{efn-ua|Ambawadi literally mean 'mango tree plantation' in [[Gujarati language]]}}.<ref name=Express2022/> The garden was established in 1960. The first redevelopment was carried out in 1970 under the Ahmedabad architect Kamal Mangaldas. The garden was maintained by AMC until the maintenance and development of the garden was taken over by the [[Torrent Group]] in 1995.<ref name=Express2022/>

Mangaldas prepared a new site plan in 1998. The restoration of the garden began in 2021, led by the UN Mehta (UNM) Foundation associated with Torrent Group and with support from AMC. This project was a part of the UNM Foundation's Pratiti initiative . The plan was executed by architect Aniket Bhagwat at the cost of {{INRconvert|12|c}}. The garden has a central lotus pond with fishes surrounded by a hundred [[terrazzo]] benches. It also has a walkway, a herbal garden, a sports zone, eight lawn plots, a pet park, and toilet facilities.<ref name="GujSam2022" /><ref name="Express2022" />

In the park's {{convert|8.5|acre|m2}} area,<ref name="GujSam2022" /> there is a [[yoga]] and meditation pavilion spread over {{convert|13000|sqft|sqm}} and a nature corner spread over {{convert|1450|sqft|sqm}}. The brick chimneys in the garden represent the city's past era of textile industry. The art installation of monkeys made from [[scrap metal]] was implemented by [[Vadodara]]-based artist Premkumar Vaishya (David).<ref name=Landscape/> In the 2021 restoration, the brick chimneys and [[bougainvillea]] arbour were retained and restored, while more than 600 trees of 45 species and 7500 plants of 125 species were planted.
