It aims to reduce discrepancies and provide a common, effective and transparent way to disburse scholarships to students. It aims to be a "one stop" portal for Indian students applying for scholarships by bringing together hundreds of scholarships run by both states and the central government.<ref name="financial">{{cite news |last1=Chakrabarty |first1=Amitava |title=Funding education through scholarship: How to avail it in India? |url=https://www.financialexpress.com/money/funding-education-through-scholarship-how-to-avail-it-in-india/2514414/ |access-date=29 September 2022 |work=Financialexpress |date=5 May 2022 |language=en}}</ref> The portal is a part of the government's [[Digital India]] initiative<ref>{{cite news |title=Digital India is a global success story |url=https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/blogs/thedanispost/digital-india-is-a-global-success-story/ |access-date=29 September 2022 |work=Times of India Blog |date=24 September 2022}}</ref> and the [[National e-Governance Plan]].<ref name="gov.in">{{cite web |title=About Us - National Scholarship Portal |url=https://scholarships.gov.in/aboutUs |website=scholarships.gov.in |access-date=29 September 2022}}</ref>
