==History==
The [[Almora]]-[[Bageshwar]] stretch of this Highway was a part of the provincial '[[Almora]]-[[Joshimath]] cart road' during the nineteenth century.<ref name=Gamble>{{cite book|last1=Gamble|first1=J.S.|title=The Indian Forester|date=1882|publisher=The Calcutta Central Press Co. ltd.|location=[[Calcutta]]|page=210|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=UDFEAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA210|access-date=1 June 2017|language=en}}</ref> The road had a steep descent on the way to Thakla (now Takula), and was surrounded by dense forests of Oak and Rhododendrons. ==Route==
It starts at Rameshwar and ends at [[Almora]]. The NH309A lies entirely in [[Uttarakhand]] and passes through the Districts of [[Pithoragarh district|Pithoragarh]], [[Bageshwar district|Bageshwar]] and [[Almora district|Almora]].

==National Highway 309B==
