== The fossil ==

The [[petrified]] tree trunk is believed to be over 120 million years old, and is considered to be evidence for the presence of a sea during the [[Cretaceous]] period in this area. This fossil is of a [[conifer]], measures around 18 meters long and a geological treasure.<ref name=gsi/> Similar fossilized tree trunks have been found in nearby Varagur, Anaipadi, Alundalippur, and Saradamangalam,<ref name="gov">{{cite web|title=Sathanur fossil tree|url=http://perambalur.nic.in/Tourism_Fossil_tree.html|publisher=The Collector, Perambalur District (Govt.owned website)|access-date=24 December 2014}}</ref> all located within {{convert|10|km|mi}} of Sathanur.

== Visiting ==
This national park is open to public throughout the year. Early visitors (1960s to 1980s) caused some damage by collecting samples for their research or in their college or university labs.{{Citation needed|date=June 2017}} Now it is well fenced and guarded.{{fact|date=August 2020}}

This park is located approximately one kilometer north of Sathanur village.
