According to legends, Narsinghpur was founded in the 13th century by two powerful [[Khond]] chiefs named Narsingh and Poro,<ref name=Gaz/> the state being named after the former, were defeated by a chieftain Dharma Singh. Although historically no records or ''farmans'' exist during the era of both [[Mughal Empire|Mughal]] and [[Maratha Empire]]s.
