The history of the Nandikeshwari temple is linked with the event of Sati's self-sacrifice at the [[Daksha yajna|Yajna Sabha]] of her father [[Daksha]], because Daksha insulted [[Sati (Hindu goddess)|Sati]] and her husband, [[Shiva]].
