Saumen Mahapatra of Trinamool Congress defeated [[Sk. Omar Ali]] of CPI(M) in 2001. In Bye Election 1998, [[Sk. Omar Ali]] of CPI(M) defeated Saumen Mahapatra of [[Trinamool Congress]].
