In 1947, Najafgarh became a part of [[Independence Day (India)|independent India]] and fell under the [[States and union territories of India|union territory]] of Delhi. [[Najafgarh (Delhi Assembly constituency)|Najafgarh Assembly Constituency]] was established in 1993 when the [[Delhi Legislative Assembly|Delhi legislative assembly]] was re-established after the Constitution (Sixty-ninth Amendment Act, 1991) came into force.
