The species is [[perennial plant|perennial]] and caespitose with elongated [[rhizome]]s. It [[culm (botany)|culms]] are erect {{convert|15|–|50|cm}} long. The leaf-sheaths are smooth, tubular and have one closed end. The leaf-blades are flat and are {{convert|5|–|15|cm}} long by {{convert|2|–|4|mm}} wide while the membrane is eciliatd and is {{convert|0.5|–|3|mm}} long. Both leaf-sheaths and leaf-blades have [[glabrousness|glabrous]] surface. The [[panicle]] is linear, spiciform, secund and is {{convert|3.5|–|12|cm}} long.&amp;lt;ref name=kew/&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Spikelets are cuneate, solitary, are {{convert|5.5|–|10|mm}} long and have fertile [[spikelet]]s that are [[pedicel (botany)|pediceled]]. Its lemma have hairs that are {{convert|4|–|5|mm}} long. It is also have an acute apex with the fertile [[lemma (botany)|lemma]] itself being chartaceous, elliptic, keelless, and is {{convert|4|-|7.5|mm}} long. The species also carry 2–3 sterile florets which are barren, cuneate, [[Sessility (zoology)|clumped]] and are {{convert|2|mm}} long. Both the upper and lower [[chaff|glumes]] are oblong, keelless, and are membranous. Their size is different though; lower one is {{convert|2.5|–|6.5|mm}} long while the upper one is {{convert|5.5|–|10|mm}} long.
