== History ==
Following the merger of Baroda state with [[Bombay State]] on 1 August 1949, the city was governed by the Bombay District Municipal Act, 1902. == Responsibilities ==
Mehsana Municipal Corporation functions within the framework of the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations Act, 1949. * primary education and basic health services within its area.

In addition to the mandatory functions, the corporation may also take up discretionary activities such as development of parks and gardens, urban beautification, cultural and sports facilities, welfare schemes for vulnerable groups, and measures for environmental protection and disaster management.

== Administration ==
The corporation is a body corporate consisting of an executive wing headed by the '''municipal commissioner''' and an elected wing of corporators. The commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) or state civil service officer, is appointed by the Government of Gujarat and exercises executive powers over the civic administration. == Elections ==
Elections to Mehsana Municipal Corporation are to be held as part of the Gujarat municipal corporation elections following the upgradation of the city to corporation status.
