<p><b>New page</b></p><div>On 21 Sep 1890 a protest broke out near the Camara Municipal de Salcete (Municipal Council of Salcete) in the Goan city of [[Margão]] against allegations of rigged elections made by the [[Partido Indiano]]. The protest soon turned violent, and the police were forced to fire at the crowd. Though the revolt lasted for a mere 20 minutes, it led to the deaths of 12 to 23 people (sources vary) and more injuries.
