From 1976 to 1977, Syeduzzaman was the Secretary at the [[Ministry of Finance (Bangladesh)|Ministry of Finance]].<ref name=":0" /> During that time he also served in the Board of Governors of the [[Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute]] and the [[Bangladesh Rice Research Institute]].<ref name=":0" />

Syeduzzaman worked at the World Bank from 1977 to 1982 as external director in the section for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Sri Lanka.<ref name=":0" />
