The '''[[Motor vessel|MV]] ''Material Service''''' was a steel-hulled [[United States|American]] self-unloading, diesel-powered [[Barge|workbarge]] that sank with the loss of fifteen lives on [[Lake Michigan]]<ref name="BGSU"/> off the coast of [[North Township, Lake County, Indiana]]. On March 25, 2014 the wreck of the ''Material Service'' was listed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]].

The ''Material Service'' (Official number 228371) was built as hull number #253 in 1929, in [[Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin]] by the Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company, for the Leatham Smith-Putnam Navigation Company of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and she was on a ten-year lease to the [[Henry Crown|Material Service Corporation]] of [[Chicago, Illinois]].<ref name="NOAA">{{cite web|url=https://nmssanctuaries.blob.core.windows.net/sanctuaries-prod/media/archive/protect/ppw/pdfs/material_service.pdf|title=Screening Level Risk Assessment Package: Material Service|work=[[National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration]]|access-date=January 20, 2019}}</ref> Her steel hull was {{convert|239.58|ft|m}} long, her [[Beam (nautical)|beam]] was {{convert|40|ft|m}} wide, and her hull was {{convert|13.75|ft|m}} deep.
