Born into a family of scholars, on September 9, 1910, in Mysore, the late “model teacher” did his postgraduation in Kannada in 1933.

He earned his M.A. from the [[Maharaja College of Mysore]]. He was given various awards including Karnataka Sahitya Academy.

He came under the tutelage of great teachers and pioneers of Kannada literature of that period such as B.M. Srikantaiah, T.S. Venkannaiah, A.R. Krishna Shastry, T.N. Srikantaiah and D.L. Narasimhachar.

In 1934, he worked as secretary, Kannada Sahitya Parishat. D.V. Gundappa was then the vice-president of the parishat.

He was the Assistant Editor of the Mysore University’s English-Kannada dictionary from 1939 to 1946. He joined the Government Arts College, Bangalore, in 1946 and retired in 1967. He took special interest in palaeography and provided new insights into several Kannada manuscripts. Recipient of many literary and public honours, Seetharamaiah identified himself with the Pragatisheela school of Kannada literary tradition. He has to his credit over 100 works.

He was responsible for establishing the B.M. Sri. Pratisthana in Bangalore in 1979. He died on March 12, 1990 in Bangalore.
