He had his early training under Nagaswaram Palanivelu, Marudhanallur Kulandaisami, Chinna Kulandaisami, Melattur Sundara Bhagavathar and Venkatarama Bhagavathar. His disciple [[Papanasam Sivan]] was awarded Sangeet Kalanidhi title in 1971.
