'''Kalyan Junction railway station''' is a major railway junction station on the central line of the [[Mumbai Suburban Railway]] network, lying at the junction of the north-east and south-east lines of the suburban [[Mumbai]] division of the Central Railway, {{cvt|54|km}} north-east of Mumbai. It come under top 10 busiest railway junction in India.<br />
Unfortunately one of the important railway project of Kalyan Viz Kalyan-Ahmednagar Railway project could not take off.Kalyan-Ahmednagar railway project was in planning stage during british regime.post independance, the PECT survey of this project was announced in 1970 with estimated cost of 58.93 crs. This report is not located at Railway Board and headquarter or field unit. Hence fresh survey was conducted in 1999 and report submitted in 2000 with estimated cost of 772 crs with negative ROR (-0.55%). Railway board shelved this project on 1st may 2000. However it was again directed to update this project in 2005. Updated cost of project was 2349.71 crs. Updating of this survey was again sanctioned vide Annexure A demand no. 2 0f 13-14 blue book. Survey report submitted on 25th aug 2014 with estimated cost of 6264 crs with negative ROR (-3.39%) Railway board has not taken any decision on this report. The project involved 24 stations and 17 tunnels. The longest tunnel wasof 18.96 kms which was in malsjej ghat. The allignment length of kalyan Ahmednagar railway project was 184 kms. Which means it could have been shortest rote to mararthwada compared with mumbai-manmad-aurangabad-nanded route. Northern and southern marathwada regions could be connected either by kalyan-nagar-Aurangabad route or kalyan-nagar-parali-nanded route. Kalyan nagar-parali-Secunderabad route is also shorter route compared with kalyan-solapur-wadi jn.-Secunderabad route. Currently kalyan-murbad section of this project is in pink book and DPR of this section is under preparation as a separate work wirh new allignment of kalyan-ambivali-murbad.<br />

There are 8 platforms at Kalyan station. Platform 2&3, 4&5 and 6&7 share a common platform base. Platform 4,5,6,7 serves for [[Express trains in India|Express trains]]. == 1991 Train bomb blast ==<br />
On November 8, 1991, a bomb exploded on a train when it reached Kalyan railway station. Twelve people were killed and 65 injured in the explosion.
