<br />
At the age of 18, Scaife was one of five Victorians who made their first-class debuts against [[Tasmania cricket team|Tasmania]] in January 1927. Batting at number six he scored 46, adding 106 for the fifth wicket with [[Norman Mitchell (sportsman)|Norman Mitchell]].<ref>{{cite web | url = https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/12/12181.html| title = Victoria v Tasmania 1926-27| publisher=CricketArchive| access-date = 4 May 2015}}</ref><br />
