Jirat is the Main Administrative Center (Sadar) of [[Balagarh (community development block)|Balagarh Block]]. [[Balagarh Bijoy Krishna Mahavidyalaya]], Balagarh BDO Office, and Jirat Hospital are located in Jirat.&lt;br /&gt;

The [[Balagarh (community development block)|Balagarh CD Block]] is mostly part of the Hooghly Flats, one of the three natural regions in the district composed of the flat [[alluvium|alluvial]] plains that form a part of the [[Ganges Delta|Gangetic Delta]].
