किशोरी जी के परिवार का माहौल शुरू से ही आधात्म की ओर रहा है। मात्र 6-7 साल की उम्र में जया जी का आध्यात्मिक सफर शुरू हुआ था। परिवार में इनके दादा दादीजी का इनके ऊपर काफी प्रभाव पड़ा उनके दादा दादीजी उन्हें भगवान् श्री कृष्ण जी की कहानियां सुनाया करते थे। मात्र 9 साल की उम्र में किशोरी जी ने लिंगाष्टकम, शिव तांडव स्त्रोत, मधुराष्टकम्रा, शिवपंचाक्षर स्तोत्रम्, दारिद्रय दहन शिव स्तोत्रम् जैसे कई स्त्रोत याद कर लिए थे। साथ ही गीत संगीत भी शुरू कर दिया था।

जया जी ने मात्र 10 वर्ष की आयु में अमोघफलदायी सम्पूर्ण सुन्दरकाण्ड गया था। वह अपने एक इंटरव्यू में बताती हैं की उनके आध्यात्मिक जीवन की सफलता में उनके माता पिता का योगदान रहा है। जया जी के गुरूजी का नाम गोविंद राम मिश्र है। इनके गुरूजी गोविंद राम मिश्र जी द्वारा जया शर्मा जी को ”किशोरी” की उपाधि दी गयी थी। जिसके बाद से जया शर्मा जी ”जया किशोरी” नाम से जाने जानी लगी। जया जी हमेशा से ही खुद को एक साधारण लड़की मानती हैं। वह खुद को साध्वी या संत कहलाना पसंद नहीं करती। जया किशोरी जी का खाटू श्याम जी पर अटूट विश्वास है।
