The university was established on 18 September 1998 as the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;International Institute of Information Technology&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, with its campus at International Tech Park, Bangalore. Prof. S. Sadagopan, who had earlier served at [[IIT Kanpur]] and [[IIM Bangalore]], became its founding Director. The institute relocated to its present campus in [[Electronics City]] in August 2003. On 4 July 2021, at the institute&amp;#039;s 21st convocation, Prof. Sadagopan handed over the directorship to Prof. Debabrata Das.&lt;br /&gt;
