&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is an assembly of percussion performance artist held at &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanji&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (known as Bullet Wood tree [[Mimusops elengi]]) tree at the courtyard of the [[Vadakkunnathan Temple]] in [[Thrissur]] city during the [[Thrissur Pooram]]. It is considered as one of the best platforms for traditional [[Kerala]] music and the largest assembly of percussion artistes in any other Poorams. The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in technical exactness and instrumental discipline are the best example of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Pandi Melam]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web&lt;br /&gt;

==The Melam==&lt;br /&gt;
The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Pandi Melam]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; of [[Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple]] is known as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. The &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; begin at the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara&amp;#039;&amp;#039; in the [[Vadakkunnathan Temple]] around 2.30 PM, and goes for around four continuous hours. The base of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Pandi Melam]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Tripuda Thaalam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. Correct number of instrumentalists participating in &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is 222. But more than 250 instrumentalists assemble because of its prominence and various other reasons. 100 &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Chenda]]s&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (In &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Edanthala&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Valanthala&amp;#039;&amp;#039; categories), 75 &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Elathalam]]s&amp;#039;&amp;#039; 21 &amp;#039;&amp;#039;[[Kombu (instrument)|Kombu]]&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and 21 &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Kurunkuzhal&amp;#039;&amp;#039; is the number of instruments in each category. There are 7 types of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Melangal&amp;#039;&amp;#039; viz &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Panchari&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Champa&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Chempada&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Adantha&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Anchadatha&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Druvam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; and &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Pandy&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Adantha Thalam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (14 Aksharas) is the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Thalam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; performed in the &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web&lt;br /&gt;

==Chiefs (&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Pramanis&amp;#039;&amp;#039;) of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;==&lt;br /&gt;
[[Peruvanam Kuttan Marar]] is the current Chief of &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039;. He joined [[Paramekkavu Bagavathi Temple]] team in 1977 and later became its leader in 1999. He has been the Chief for 18 years and has been associated with &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Ilanjithara Melam&amp;#039;&amp;#039; for 35 years.
