[[IV Corps (United Kingdom)|IV Corps]] under Lieutenant General [[Noel Irwin|NMS Irwin]] was deployed from the [[Middle East]] in January 1942 for the defense of [[Assam Province|Assam]] from the advancing [[Empire of Japan|Japanese]] during [[World War II]].
