He is a leader of [[Bharatiya Janata Party]] from [[Madhya Pradesh]], and currently serves as chairman of the state finance commission. He is a six time legislator who also served as the state home minister. He was first elected to the legislative assembly in 1977 from [[Ratlam]] city. He was re-elected in 1980, 1985, and 1990. He was sworn in as Cabinet minister in the [[Sunder Lal Patwa ministry|Patwa ministry]] (1990-1992) and was given the portfolio of PWD department. He was re-elected in 1998 and 2003. He was sworn in as cabinet minister in babulal guar ministry on 1 June 2005 and was given the department of forest and cooperative.
