The gurudwara was constructed to commemorate the visit of the first [[Sikh]] guru, [[Guru Nanak]] to Rameswaram in about 1511. The gurudwarar was visited by the [[Governor of Tamil Nadu]], [[Surjit Singh Barnala]] in 2005.
