The office of Governor-General was replaced by the office of [[President of Pakistan]] when Pakistan became a [[republic]] in 1956. The then Governor-General, [[Major-General Sahibzada Sayyid Iskander Ali Mirza|Iskander Mirza]], became Pakistan's first president.
