The medical college was initially a project of [[Employees&amp;#039; State Insurance|ESI Corporation]]. [[Kodikunnil Suresh]], the then [[Ministry of Labour and Employment (India)|Central Deputy Minister of Labour and Employment]], announced the ESIC medical college project at [[Parippally]] in [[Kollam]] during 2012–2013.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{cite web|url=http://www.newindianexpress.com/cities/thiruvananthapuram/Future-of-ESI-Medical-Colleges-in-State-at-Stake/2014/10/18/article2482910.ece|title=Future of ESI Medical Colleges in State at Stake|publisher=TNIE|access-date=13 August 2016}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; The works for hospital has been completed and commissioned in December 2013. Later, in the months of July–August, the [[Left Democratic Front (Kerala)|LDF]] lead new government in Kerala had taken the necessary actions for staff appointments to get the first batch of MBBS at ESIC Medical College in 2016-17-year itself.
