Until 2018, the [[Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board]] (BCECEB)<ref name="bceceboard">{{cite web|url=http://bceceboard.bihar.gov.in|title=Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB).|website=bceceboard.bihar.gov.in|access-date=2020-02-23}}</ref> conducted an exam based on the Merit List of the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination. Successful candidates attended an online counseling procedure.

From 2019 onward, admissions in state engineering colleges of Bihar were based on applicant's [[Joint Entrance Examination – Main|JEE mains]] rank. Students have to fill the application form on the BCECE Board website for admission.
