The '''Government Degree College for Boys''' is an educational institute of South Jehlum Valley. It was established in 1950 as an intermediate co - educational college in Anantnag. Later it was shifted to its present location which was a rent house of the Maharaja. In the early eighties a women’s college was established in the town thereby, making it a seat of learning for boys only.<br />

The College Hostel provides accommodation to at least 120 students at a time. Unfortunately the hostel is currently being occupied by security forces and the students from afar have to make their own arrangements at higher costs and less convenience.<br />
