Gauria Kalan was historically the seat of the Gauria Kalan [[taluqdar]]i estate, which was held by a family of [[Siddiqui]] Sheikhs.<ref name="Gazetteer">{{cite book |last1=Nevill |first1=H.R. |title=Lucknow - A Gazetteer |date=1904 |publisher=Government Press |location=Allahabad |page=94 |url=https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.48095 |access-date=18 March 2021}}</ref> The family's ancestor, Shah Rafi-ud-Din, came from [[Delhi]] at the time of [[Babur]].<ref name="Gazetteer"/> His grandson, Sheikh Tahir, founded [[Tahirpur, Lucknow|Tahirpur]] and served as [[qanungo]] of the [[pargana]] of [[Amethi, Lucknow|Amethi]], and he was the one who added Gauria Kalan to the estate.<ref name="Gazetteer"/> His brothers were ancestors of related estates at [[Mahmudabad, India|Mahmudabad]] and [[Dhaurahra]] respectively.<ref name="Gazetteer"/> At the turn of the 20th century, the Gauria Kalan taluqdars held two estates (the other being [[Nizampur, Lucknow|Nizampur]]), consisting of six villages and two [[patti (land)|patti]]s.<ref name="Gazetteer"/> The head of the family was Majid Husain, who held the estate along with his brothers Ashraf Husain, Muhammad Ali, and Ahmad Ali.<ref name="Gazetteer"/>
