He died aged 73 on 2 June 2021 due to [[COVID-19]]. His wife R. P. Poorani, also a film producer, had died following a cardiac arrest weeks earlier. He was survived by two sons, Siva Kumar and Saamy Kumar.<ref name="bio1"/>
