This constituency came into existence in 1966. East Delhi is one of the larger and highly populated Lok Sabha constituencies not only in Delhi but all over India. The constituency covers areas east of the [[Yamuna]] and has a large population, including Seelampur, [[Shahdara district|Shahdara]], [[Gandhi Nagar, Delhi|Gandhi Nagar]] and Preet Vihar.
