&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Digaru&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, also known as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;Umtrew&amp;#039;&amp;#039;&amp;#039;, is a river originating in the [[Garo Hills|Garo]]-[[Khasi Hills|Khasi]] hills of [[Meghalaya]] state in India,&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;{{Cite web |date=2024-08-24 |title=Digaru River, Meghalaya |url=https://www.emeghalaya.com/tourism/digaru-river |access-date=2025-01-19 |website=eMeghalaya |language=en}}&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; flowing towards the northeast and then meeting the [[Kopili River|Kopili river]] and then merging with the [[Brahmaputra]] river. The name Digaru originated from a Kachari/Mech word &amp;#039;Di&amp;#039; which means water and &amp;#039;Garo&amp;#039; means the people living in the Garo hills. Hence Digaru literally means &amp;quot;water of the Garo&amp;quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
This River is known as Umtru River in Meghalaya. There are 3 dams are constructed across this river namely, Umtru Dam, Kyrdemkulai (Umiam st-III) Dam &amp;amp; Nongkhyllem Dam at Ri Bhoi district for hydroelectric power generation.&lt;br /&gt;
