For a safe river crossing, Hanuman prayed to Lord [[Shiva|Siva]] here and established the [[Lingam|Dayanidhi Lingam]]. Thus the name of the village was derived as &#039;Vada Kurangu Kadu Thurai&#039; meaning &#039;The port-forest of the northern monkey&#039; in [[Tamil language|Tamil]].
