As a word for "rain" or "liquid", ''dānu'' is compared to Avestan ''dānu'', "river", and further to river names like [[Don River (Russia)|Don]], [[Danube]], [[Dnieper]], [[Dniestr]], etc. There is also a Danu river in Nepal.
