Zebu can begin reproducing at around 44 months old. However, early reproduction can place stress on the body and possibly shorten lifespans. The carrying time of the calf averages at around 285 days, however, it depends on the age and health of the mother. Male calves are carried for a shorter time than females.<ref name=":0"~~>{{Cite web\|url=http:~~//www.fao.org/docrep/009/t0095e/t0095e04.htm\|title = Types and Breeds of Tropical and Temperate Cattle.\|year = 1987\|website = Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations\|accessdate = 1 February 2016}}</ref> Zebu can begin reproducing at around 44 months old.
