Ajnar River Cleanup Drive
Background of the river
The Ajnar River originates near Narsinghgarh and flows for nearly 52 kilometers across Madhya Pradesh before entering Rajasthan. While historically vital for local drinking and agricultural needs, urbanization, untreated municipal sewage, and plastic accumulation degraded sections of the river into a dumping site.

Clean-up execution
On 26 January 2026 (Republic Day of India), Choudhary initiated a solo project to clear waste from the Ajnar River. Although a few friends initially accompanied him, they eventually withdrew due to the physical difficulty, leaving Choudhary to carry on independently.

Lacking specialized heavy machinery, Choudhary manually entered the riverbed to clear plastic debris, bottles, and algae. He spent approximately ₹30,000 of his personal savings on basic tools and dustbins. Waste removed from the riverbanks was transported by Choudhary to a designated dumping facility on a two-wheeler.

The task involved physical risks: Choudhary was unable to swim, contracted skin infections from polluted water, and encountered snakes among river debris. Over several months, his work successfully transformed several riverbanks in Biaora.

Government and municipal involvement
As videos of Choudhary's work gained traction on social media, the Biaora Municipal Corporation joined the restoration. Municipal authorities provided heavy equipment, including JCBs and Poclain excavators, to assist in clearing submerged plastic and debris.

Public Recognition and Impact
Endorsement by Anand Mahindra
During the initial months of his work, Choudhary faced criticism from online users who claimed his efforts were primarily aimed at gaining followers.

On 30 March 2026, Indian industrialist Anand Mahindra publicly defended Choudhary on X, naming him his "#MondayMotivation":

Mahindra's statement significantly increased national awareness of the campaign. Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen also publicly praised Choudhary's initiative.

Meeting with Chief Minister Mohan Yadav
In September 2026, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav invited Choudhary to the Chief Minister's Residence in Bhopal. Yadav commended Choudhary's determination, stating that his actions aligned with the state's Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan to restore local water bodies.

Offer from The Ocean Cleanup
In September 2026, a social media post showcasing before-and-after imagery of the Ajnar River reached Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup. Slat replied to the post with a direct invitation:
<blockquote>"Come work for us."</blockquote>

Slat's response gained international coverage in outlets such as The Independent, Gulf News, The Times of India, and The Economic Times.

Debates and Municipal Clarifications
Following national coverage, local municipal officials offered further details regarding the cleanup. Biaora Municipal Corporation Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) Iqrar Ahmad stated that while Choudhary played a vital role in cleaning specific ghats and inspiring the public, full remediation of the 52 km river involved efforts from municipal teams, machinery, and seasonal monsoon flow. Municipal authorities noted that permanent rejuvenation requires constructing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) valued at ₹14.7 crore to address untreated drains entering the river.
