Singh was born in 1884, a year before the accession of his father [[Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar|Fateh Singh]] to the throne of Mewar and Udaipur as &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Maharana&amp;#039;&amp;#039;.&amp;lt;ref&amp;gt;Brian Masters, &amp;#039;&amp;#039;Maharana: the story of the rulers of Udaipur&amp;#039;&amp;#039; (1990), p. 107&amp;lt;/ref&amp;gt; He suffered paralysis at the age of 5.
