In 1997, he got a big reward for the first time as a member of the Legislative Council. In 2003 also, Babu was again sent to the Legislative Council and when the BSP government was formed for the third time, he was made the Minister of Panchayati Raj.

			In 2007, when BSP came to power with an absolute majority, Babu Singh got important departments like minerals, appointments, cooperatives. When the Department of Family Welfare was formed, this department was also handed over to him. This proved afresh that he is Mayawati's most trusted leader. The crores of rupees that the government could not spend for the National Rural Health Mission were noticed by Babu Singh and then the game of Bandarbant started.
