Lal joined the [[Indian Civil Service]] in 1941 and was given various responsibilities in the Government of [[Uttar Pradesh]] until 1965.<ref name=biodata>{{cite web |url=https://eap.bl.uk/archive-file/EAP880-1-1-96 |title=Biodata of B.B.
