The temple was constructed in the 10th century CE under the patronage of [[Lakshmana (Chahamana dynasty)|Rao Lakshmana Chauhan]] of the [[Chahamanas of Shakambhari|Shakambhari Chahamana dynasty]]. According to epigraphic inscriptions, the ruler commissioned the shrine to express gratitude for military successes attributed to the deity’s blessings.
