==History==
Archeological excavations in the late 1950s and early 1960s revealed that Ahar was the site of the [[Chalcolithic]] [[Ahar–Banas culture|Ahar culture]].<ref name="Hooja">{{cite journal|journal= Serindian: Indian Archaeology and Heritage Online|issue= 1|date=July 2000|url=http://www.serindian.com/sa-research/sa0aa21.htm|last=Hooja|first=Rima|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20000818060316/http://www.serindian.com/sa-research/sa0aa21.htm|title=The Ahar culture: A Brief Introduction|archive-date=18 August 2000}}</ref> Two distinct cultures have been identified at the Ahar archeological site - Ahar Period I (2580 BC to 1500 BC) and Ahar Period II (1000 BC onwards).<ref name="Hooja" />
