India directly qualified for the super 10s. They started their tournament strongly. They won their first match against Pakistan very easily. They beat West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia easily to be the topper of [[2014 ICC World Twenty20#Group 1|Group 1]] with a 100% win rate. In the semi final they faced South Africa. A 72 not out innings from [[Virat Kohli]] helped India to qualify for the final.

Sri Lanka was one of the favorite of this tournament. They were the champions of [[2014 ICC World Twenty20#Group 2|Group 2]] with wins against Netherlands, South Africa and New Zealand. But they lost to England.
