==Plot ==
The story revolves around the lives of two sisters from Vrindavan, Simar and Roli. Simar dreams of becoming a dancer but her conservative parents are against her dream, considering dancing as an improper and obscene occupation. Instead, they are planning to get their daughter married to wealthy businessman, Prem Bharadwaj. At the day of the wedding, there's a great dancing contest and to allow Simar to participate in it without disturbing their parents, Roli takes Simar's place until the latter returns. However, Simar is late, and thus, dressed up and veiled Roli is forced to marry Prem. This creates problems, as Simar and Prem start loving each other. Prem's brother, Siddhant enters, who was thrown out of the house as he had a fight with Nirmala Devi. After some twists and turns, Simar and Prem, Roli and Siddhant get married, both Simar and Roli are accepted as ideal daughter-in-laws of Bharadwaj house.

Soon, Khushi enters the Bhardwaj house to take revenge for her sister Anisha's death and tries to kill Simar. She tricks the Bhardwaj family and marries Sankalp. Roli tried to bring the true face of Khushi in front of the family but Simar threw Roli out of the house. Simar got pregnant but, suffers with [[miscarriage]] as Khushi's partner, Veeru pushes her from the stairs. It is revealed that Simar can never become a mother. Khushi tricks and becomes [[Surrogacy|surrogate mother]] of Prem and Simar's child. Khushi blackmails Simar to sign the property papers so that she can become the owner of Bhardwaj house. Later, Khushi is exposed in front of the family and she is then sent to jail. She gives birth to Prem and Simar's daughter, Anjali.

Simar and Roli find their long-lost sister-in-law, Jhanvi. Soon, Shaurya enters Jhanvi's life, marries her, and creates trouble but Jhanvi shoots him to death. Then, Jhanvi gets married to Dr. Anurag. Simar and Roli save the family from Bhakti and a politician Jwala Devi. Jwala kidnaps Roli and while escaping, Roli unintentionally hits a car and a woman named Sunaina is dead. To save Roli, Simar goes to Sunaina's family, faking her death and live as Sunaina and raises her daughter, Sanjana as per Sunaina's husband, Vikrant's instructions.

Now, Simar lives as Sunaina while Roli takes care of Anjali. Prem has remarried to another woman named Surabhi. Roli meets Simar at a summer camp and pleads her to come back. Simar returns and has to cope up with a [[supernatural]] creature: Sunaina's spirit who has returned for revenge, Baa and Kartik (Vikrant's mother and brother) who were the people behind Sunaina's death and also with Vikrant. Prem, Roli and Siddhant also join with Simar. Eventually, Sunaina and Surabhi, are banished. Vikrant tries to murder Prem and is sent to jail. Sanjana gets adopted by Simar and Prem.

Later, the story revolves around Simar, Roli, Prem and Siddhant and how they protect Bharadwaj house from some [[supernatural]] creatures who want to destroy them. After Roli's sad demise, depressed Siddhant is remarried to Simar and Roli's childhood friend, Prerna and moves abroad with her. To gain his powers back and return to the world, [[Kaal]], with the help of some [[witches]], among which are Mahamaya and Kamya, casts a spell on Simar and impregnates her with a child possessing evil powers. Simar awares of this mysterious plan and soon witnesses Kamya's real vintage. The Family too comes to know about the same. In addition, Kamya is interested in marrying Prem which Mahamaya refuses. A conflict arises between the two tending to the escape of Simar and Prem from their cover. Aftermath, Simar delivers a baby boy, Piyush. Being in doubt of the baby's spookiness, the Family and Prem ask to donate away the child. Being a responsible mother, Simar regrets, denies her only option and leaves her in-laws, reasonably with her newborn son.
===16 years later===
After major time leaps, the story shows Simar and Piyush returning to Bharadwaj house and reuniting with their family after several scenarios of the plot. Now Anjali, who is brought up by Khushi, has grown up to be a spoilt and selfish fashionista and blames Simar for abandoning her. Simar and Prem together help their children in their lives. They marry Anjali to Vikram Agarwal and later Piyush to his best friend Roshni Kapoor. After Simar helps Anjali managing her marriage, Anjali accepts her mother.

[[Kaal]] awakens on Piyush's 25th birthday, possessing him and killing Roshni's father, Sumit Kapoor, but is finally defeated by a [[sorceress (fantasy)|sorceress]] named Riddhima. Later, Vikram leaves Anjali for Tanvi. Anjali divorces her husband and returns to the Bharadwaj house. Sanjana returns to Bharadwaj house from [[London]], where she was sent years ago to pursue higher studies. Upon realizing Sanjana and her college friend Sameer Kapoor's mutual feelings, the Bharadwajs fix their marriage. However, Anjali discovers that Sameer is a fraud who is conspiring against the Bharadwajs' and to spare herself from the same fate, she marries Sameer in a secret ceremony. She humiliates her family members and treats them like servants. Piyush plots a master plan to get the Bharadwaj's property back from Anjali, she threatens to kill her own mother but is stopped by Simar who shoots her and Anjali falls into a coma.

Bhairavi, Sameer's mother is revealed to have shot Anjali. Together with Sameer, she enters the Bharadwajs' lives to avenge Prem for running car over her husband. It is subsequently revealed than Bhairavi murdered him herself after he discovered she was a drug dealer and is using the Bharadwajs as a cover-up. After absorbing [[supernatural]] powers, Bhairavi turns into a ''daayan'' and kills Simar, leaving the Bharadwajs heartbroken. However, the Mother [[Goddess]] [[Durga]], deeply worshipped by the Bharadwaj family, enters their household in the form of Simar, to destroy Bhairavi and bring Simar back to life. Sameer repents for his mistakes and the Bharadwajs forgive and accept him. Anjali wakes up from coma and asks forgiveness from all the family members. Her intentions are revealed when she tries to kill her fiancée Sahil and set Bharadwaj Mansion on fire, and she is arrested. Simar considers her daughter dead and asks the other family members to forget about her. The Saga of the Mystery Box begins, leading to Aliya, who shoots Roshni with a gun to avenge her father's death who had committed suicide due to Piyush's mistake, and Roshni sadly dies, leaving the family in sadness and making Piyush mad.

6 months pass after Roshni's sad demise. The show portrays the story of Simar and Prem searching for their son Piyush who got lost after Roshni's death, and managing the married life of their adopted daughter, Sanjana. Simar finds out that Piyush has lost his memory and is being looked after by a girl named Avni and her mother, Hema. Simar takes her son back to Bharadwaj House together with Avni and Hema. Bhairavi has returned from jail and is living with Sameer and Sanjana, but is actually plotting her revenge, having paid Avni and Hema to kidnap Piyush and destroy the Bharadwaj family. Sanjana loses her unborn child. When Avni tries to expose Bhairavi, the latter attempts to kill her but only succeeds in murdering Avni's mother. Bhairavi shooting a gun leads to Piyush regaining his memory. In the end, Simar kills Bhairavi and Piyush marries Avni, promising her that he would always be by her side. The Bharadwajs worship the Mother [[Goddess]] and celebrate togetherness. Pari apologises to Simar for her past mistakes. Simar also remembers her sister Roli and Nirmala says that the Bharadwaj family is not only a family but a thought. With this, the first season of the protagonist Simar comes to an end.

He continued to tour throughout the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, mainly in 1960s revival-type shows, until his retirement in 2010 due to ill health.<ref name="bbc"/>

Rupesh Paul then directed a Malayalam movie, ''[[Laptop]]/ My Mother's laptop'' (2008) starring [[Suresh Gopi]], [[Shweta Menon]], [[Urmila Unni]] and [[Padmapriya Janakiraman|Padmapriya]],<ref name="koimoi1" /> based on a short story by [[Subhash Chandran]]. In the initial stage of his carrier, he participated in the MR. Agra Contest was held by Star One and won the contest later he walks for brands like Globus. He hails from Agra, Uttar Pradesh. In 2011, Rupesh wrote and directed his first international feature film, ''The Secret Diaries of Monalisa''. The movie was shot in the [[UK]], [[Italy]] and [[France]]. Rupesh developed his short story, "Drakulayude Ezhamathe Vadhu" into a novel and later into a movie, ''[[Saint Dracula 3D]]'' (2011).
