Varadarajan joined the [[Uttar Pradesh]] cadre of the Indian Administrative Service in 1956. He initiated several district-level community-based schemes to help the poor and the lower castes. He was secular and gained respect of both Hindus and Muslims.<ref name=":0" />

Apart from his later appointments as a minister at the Indian High Commission in London and as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Culture in New Delhi, he also served as executive director of the Indian Council for Child Welfare, member of the [[National Commission for Minorities]], chairman of the [[National Museum of India]], and president of [[Alliance française|Alliance Française]] in Delhi.<ref name=":0" /><ref>{{Cite book |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=FIFTAAAAYAAJ |title=Tattvālokah |date=1991 |publisher=Sri Abhinava Vidyatheertha Educational Trust |language=en}}</ref>

It is a huge complex of buildings, covering over {{convert|150|acre|km2}} sprinkled with many lawns, overlooking the historic [[Purana Qila]], which stands opposite Gate no 1.

The complex houses many pavilions like the Nehru Pavilion, the Defence Pavilion, the Indira Pavilion, and the Son of India Pavilion. It has various building which are built in various shapes and sizes. It also has an auditorium where rock shows and plays are held quite frequently. There is also an internal shuttle service for those who do not wish to walk. Pragati Maidan used to house a movie theatre called ''Shakuntalam'', quite popular among college kids for its comparatively cheap tickets. The comprehensive revamp plan of the Pragati Maidan, IECC project was conceptualized by the ITPO as per the direction of [[Prime Minister of India|Prime Minister]] [[Narendra Modi]] in December 2015, The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved it in January 2017 for implementation in a mission mode. The project has a total built-up area of 4.2 million sq. ft, comprising an iconic, world-class convention centre that can accommodate 7,000 people in a single format, six modern exhibition halls with an exhibition area of 1.5 lakh [[Square metre|sq. m]] and plenty of underground parking facilities and good infrastructure connectivity to encourage the use of public transportation, but also allow roads to decongest fast. Pragati Maidan is spread over 123 acres of prime land in the heart of India's capital, New Delhi. The revamped complex comprises the newly built double-storey exhibition Halls - 1, 2, 3, 4. 5 & 15 and a single-floor structure - Hall 6.

The Pragati Maidan complex is divided into two sections - the old hall complex which comprises Halls 7 -12A and the new hall complex which comprises Halls 1 to 6 and 14. [[Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station]] is 3 km from Pragati Maidan.
The best way to reach Pragati Maidan is by [[Delhi Metro]]. Get down at the [[Supreme Court metro station]] which is located at gate number 10.

Reynolds was born on 5 April 5, 1853, in [[Sussex]], [[England]] from a notable family background, with his father, George Stewart Reynolds, serving as a Vice-Admiral in the British Royal Navy, and his mother, Eliza Susanna.
In 1873, he attended the [[Royal Indian Engineering College]] at Coopers Hill, Windsor, an institution known for training engineers for service in the Indian civil service. In 1895, he married Lavinia Jane Baker in England.<ref name="Sorenson 2009 k958"/>

== Career ==
He began his career in British India's Public Works Department, particularly in the State Railways, which were primarily coal-driven at the time. He served diligently in this capacity from 1875 to 1897, eventually attaining the positions of Executive Engineer and Certified Mine Manager. Following his retirement from the Indian civil service, he worked in Dutch oil wells in the [[East Indies]] (now [[Indonesia]]). In 1901, Reynolds was hired by [[William Knox D'Arcy]] to lead oil exploration efforts in Persia.<ref name="Sorenson 2009 k958"/>

== Oil exploration in Iran ==
In 1901, D'Arcy received a concession from the [[Qajar dynasty]] in Iran to explore for oil in the country. Reynolds worked closely with D'Arcy and played a key role in the early years of [[Anglo-Persian Oil Company]]. Drilling in southern Persia at Shardin continued until 1907, when the search was switched to [[Masjed Soleyman]], in a place named ''Maydon-e-Naftune''. Drilling began at one site in January 1908, and at another nearby in March. By April, with no success, the venture close to collapse, and D'Arcy who was almost bankrupted, decided with Burmah to abandon exploration in Iran. In early May 1908, they sent Reynolds a telegram stating that they had run out of money and ordering him to "cease work, dismiss the staff, dismantle anything worth the cost of transporting to the coast for re-shipment, and come home". The Karnataka Premier League finals were held on 23 September 2009 as a 20-over match between Provident Bangalore and the Belagavi Panthers, played at [[M Chinnaswamy Stadium]], [[Bengaluru]]. Provident Bangalore won by five wickets (with four balls remaining). The Player of the Match was Amit Verma for (Rural). The Player of the Series was [[J. Arunkumar]] of the Belagavi Panthers. The Belgavi Panthers have in their ranks experienced players like captain [[J. Arunkumar]], [[Manish Pandey]] and [[R. Vinay Kumar]]. [[J. Arunkumar]] scored the most runs (326) in the first year of Mantri KPL while [[Manish Pandey]] holds the record for the highest scorer (112 not out), David Johnson was the highest wicket taker with 17 scalps after a 6-7 year return to cricket and Vinay Kumar was the second highest wicket taker (14 wickets).
