CID served a notice asking Banerjee to appear before investigators and provide his statement regarding the authenticity of the signatures in question.

After receiving the notice, Banerjee sought fifteen days' time from the CID, citing medical reasons and treatment following injuries sustained during an attack on him in Sonarpur. CID officers subsequently visited his residence in Kolkata and served a second summons, asking him to cooperate with the investigation.

On 30 May 2026, Banerjee moved the Calcutta High Court challenging the CID proceedings and seeking relief against the notices issued to him. His petition argued that the allegations and subsequent investigation were unjustified, while the CID maintained that his statement was required as part of the ongoing inquiry.

Separately, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Banerjee in connection with its investigation into the alleged teacher recruitment scam and related money-laundering aspects of the case. The summons was issued while the CID's signature-forgery investigation was continuing, resulting in simultaneous inquiries by state and central agencies.

According to reports, the ED directed Banerjee to appear before investigators in New Delhi for questioning regarding the alleged recruitment scam. Banerjee denied wrongdoing and described the actions against him as politically motivated.
Chinthamani Ragoonatha Chary (1822 or "17 March" 1828 – 5 February 1880) was an Indian astronomer who worked at the Madras Observatory along with N.R. Pogson. He was the first Indian Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and is known for his studies of variable stars and the discovery of R Reticuli in 1867.

Early life
Little is known about Chary's personal life. It is believed that he was born in Madras in about 1822.

This first battle of Panipat thus ended the 'Lodi Rule' established by Bahlul Lodhi in Delhi. This battle marked the beginning of Mughal rule in India.

The Second Battle of Panipat was fought on 5 November 1556 between the forces of Akbar and Hem Chandra Vikramaditya, the last Hindu emperor of Delhi.
The garden of Kabuli Bagh along with the Kabuli Bagh Mosque and a tank were built by Babur after the First Battle of Panipat to commemorate his victory over Ibrahim Lodhi. Some years later when Humayun defeated Sher Shah Suri near Panipat, he added a masonry Platform to it and called it 'Chabutra" Fateh Mubarak, bearing the inscription 934 Hijri (1557 CE). These buildings and the garden still exist under the name of Kabuli Bagh called so after Babur's wife – Mussammat Kabuli begum.
The site is being developed and beautified by a society presided over by the Governor of Haryana.
Panipat Syndrome
The term "Panipat Syndrome" has entered the lexicon as the lack of strategic thinking, preparedness and decisive action by Indian leaders thus allowing an invading army to enter well inside their territory. This is based on the fact that in the three battles fought here, the defending armies were decisively defeated each time. It was coined by Air Commodore Jasjit Singh.
