Jagdish Gupta was born in Shahabad, Hardoi district. He earned an MA and D.Phil. He worked as a chairman of the Hindi Department in Allahabad University and engaged in freelance writing. Gupta was a noble poet, literature writer and critic. He was a noted Indian poet of the Nayi Kavita literary movement of the early 20th century. His main Poetry – Collection: "Nav ke panv, Aditya Ekant, Him Vidh, Shabd Dansh, Shambuk and Yugm." He did his thesis on Gujrati and Brajbhasha. He had a special interest in painting. He was honored by the government of the Braj sahatiya mandal of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.

In 4th edition of [[Indian Premier League|IPL]], Goswami was kept in the uncapped player pool and was signed by the [[Kolkata Knight Riders]]. In 5th edition of [[Indian Premier League|IPL]], he moved to the [[Rajasthan Royals]].

Goswami toiled hard in the domestic circuit for Bengal but [[Wriddhiman Saha]]'s presence meant that he was always the reserve keeper, making sporadic appearances only when Saha was on international duty. He was mostly picked for the shorter formats where he had much better record as an opener. However he had a really good Ranji Trophy season in 2016-17 and registered his career best score of 227.

He was selected for the Board President's XI side for playing a practice match against [[Steve Smith (cricketer)|Steve Smith]]'s Australia in September 2017. His good performances has also earned him a spot for India A's ODI series against New Zealand A.

The Rayee are strictly endogamous, but have no sub-divisions or [[gotra]]s. They prefer marriage among a close kinship circle, and both cross cousin and parallel cousin marriages are practiced. The community are still essentially vegetable and fruit sellers, with a good number engaged in agriculture. They are small to medium sized farmers. With rapid urbanization, many Rayee have also taken unskilled jobs as rickshaw pulling, and form an important part of the [[Bihari Muslim]] population in [[Calcutta]]. But like other communities of a similar status, there has been a marked tendency to take up education, and they now produced a number of businessmen, administrators, teachers and political leaders.<ref name="Gopal"/>

The Bihar Al-Rayee Anjuman is one of the oldest [[caste]] association in Bihar, and plays an active role in the welfare of the community, as well as playing an important role in the politics of Bihar. At village level, the community also possesses informal village [[panchayat]]s which act as instruments of social control.
