== Synopsis ==
Shaku ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]) is a sober but adamant young girl orphaned by fate who lives in a slum with her maternal uncle, Damodar ([[Gammat Jammat|Suhas Bhalekar]]), a bachelor. Shaku's sole dream is to marry a millionaire as according to her, a girl receives only one chance to change her name and financial conditions and that is after her marriage. Damodar is a domestic worker for Mr. Lakshmidhar Kuber ([[Nilu Phule]]), a renowned industrialist whose only son, Narendra ([[Sachin Pilgaonkar]]), also known as Naren, has just returned from abroad after completing his studies. At a party thrown by Mr. Kuber for his son's homecoming, Shaku accompanies Damodar for help in the chores when Naren shares his views on marriage with his friends. His only condition is that he will marry a young widow, which is overheard by Shaku. With the help of Tatya Malvankar ([[Macchindra Kambli]]), a theatre costume lender and friend of Damodar, Shaku poses as "Saudamini", a young widow, and creates a sequence of events wherein she succeeds in entering the Kuber residence.

Using her theatrical antics, she soon wins over the hearts of Naren and his mother, Mrs. Kuber ([[Gol Maal|Shubha Khote]]), who ask her to stay in the house for a more duration. As days go by, Naren falls in love with Shaku but Mr. Kuber asks for Saudamini's late husband's photograph. Again with the help of Tatya Malvankar, Shaku shows the Kubers the photograph of an aspiring theatre actor dressed in a military uniform and tells his name as "Captain Bajirao Rangade", her so-called late husband, provoking Mr. Kuber to finally agree for Naren and Shaku's marriage. The aspiring theatre actor in the photograph is Dinkar Luktuke ([[Ashok Saraf]]), a clerk working for Mr. Kuber's childhood friend, Mr. Gajanan Deshmukh ([[Jayram Kulkarni|Jairam Kulkarni]]), while secretly in love with his only daughter, Hema ([[Kishori Shahane]]). Mr. Kuber had previously asked Mr. Deshmukh for Hema's hand in marriage for Naren. One day, when Mr. Kuber visits Mr. Deshmukh at his office, he suddenly bumps into Luktuke and identifies him from the photograph of Saudamini's late husband, Captain Bajirao Rangade. A plan begins to take shape in the mind of Mr. Kuber, who makes Luktuke arrive at the Kuber residence as Captain Bajirao Rangade himself.

==Plot==
Dhananjay Mane ([[Ashok Saraf]]) is a street-smart salesman in a cosmetics store in [[Pune]] and is secretly in love with his employer, Madhuri ([[Ashwini Bhave]]). He is the tenant of a stingy landlord, Mr. Vishwas Sarpotdar ([[Sudhir Joshi]]), and is soon joined by his younger brother, Shantanu ([[Siddharth Ray]]), who is a [[Medicine|medical]] student. Though prohibited by Mr. Sarpotdar, Dhananjay and Shantanu allow their [[Kolhapur]]-based childhood friends, Sudhir ([[Sachin Pilgaonkar]]) and Parshuram ([[Laxmikant Berde]]), who is also known as Parshya, to secretly live with them as they both have come to Pune in search of jobs. Sudhir has been miserably disowned by his abusive uncle ([[Gammat Jammat|Suhas Bhalekar]]) for his negligence towards job and income and participation in the village dances out of interest. Enraged by his harassment, Mr. Sarpotdar orders the four friends to vacate the place within four days.

After several unsuccessful attempts in finding rented accommodation, Dhananjay and Shantanu finally come across the palatial [[bungalow]] house of a rich, old, kind and cataractic widow, Leelabai Kalbhor (Nayantara), who lives with her shrewd domestic worker, Tanu (Gulab Korgaonkar), and is often harassed for her money by her estranged nephew, Bali ([[Viju Khote]]). She is willing to rent some rooms at her house provided that her tenants are married couples. In a bid to comply with Leelabai's condition, Dhananjay and Shantanu have no other option but to force Sudhir and Parshya to dress as women and thus begins the comedy of errors; Parshya shaves off his moustache and transforms himself into "Parvati", Dhananjay's wife, while Sudhir transforms himself into "Sudha", Shantanu's wife. Shortly after the arrival of the four friends at Leelabai's residence as "married couples", Leelabai's niece, Manisha ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]), and her childhood friend, Sushma ([[Nivedita Joshi-Saraf|Nivedita Joshi Saraf]]), who is also coincidentally Shantanu's girlfriend from [[Miraj]], come to stay with Leelabai for some months.

Sudhir, now a successful [[Singing|singer]] and music educator, falls in love with Manisha and courts her in his original form, stating that he is the twin brother of Sudha and that he is disappointed with her marriage with Shantanu and is thus not on talking terms with both Sudha and Shantanu. On the other hand, Shantanu, having passed to become a successful doctor, cooks up a fake story of the deadly stomach cancer of Sudha in front of Sushma as she is deeply upset at his betrayal with her and his marriage with Sudha. Elsewhere, Parshya reunites with Kamli when she comes to Pune with Chhaburao's drama troupe and also shares the news of Parshya having become a successful playwright back in Kolhapur. Meanwhile, Madhuri is heartbroken to see Dhananjay married with Parvati during her visit at Leelabai's residence, but Dhananjay confides the truth in Madhuri through a letter and the two eventually confess their love for each other.

While the four friends develop a bond of motherly love with Leelabai, Tanu confides in Bali the truth about Parvati and Sudha's true identities after she notices Parshya's wig and Sudhir wearing earrings while jumping out from the window in his original form. Eventually, the four friends decide to leave Leelabai's house after finding a new accommodation with the help of Madhuri and stage a drama before Leelabai for their way out. However, in the process, they all are unfortunately exposed by Bali and three of his henchmen in front of Leelabai, Manisha and Sushma and are handed over to the police called in by Tanu. However, at the police station, Leelabai surprisingly disowns Bali as her nephew and absolves the four friends of their deception instead because she genuinely feels that the four friends staged the drama out of their desperate need for a roof over their heads and that their intention was not to steal from her or take advantage of her cataract and that they treated her only like their own mother if anything. Hence, Leelabai decides to take them all in as her own sons with the marriages of Dhananjay, Sudhir, Parshya and Shantanu with Madhuri, Manisha, Kamli and Sushma, respectively. The film ends with the all four newlywed couples taking a family photograph along with Leelabai.

==Plot==
Vakratund ([[Sachin Pilgaonkar]]), also known as Vacky, and Bhakti ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]) are a couple who have got married against Bhakti's parents' wishes. Vacky is a talented artist but has not achieved commercial success while the couple is also not blessed with children despite 10 years of marriage. Soon, Bhakti learns from Vacky's paternal aunt, Atya ([[Nirmiti Sawant]]), that Vacky's parents had made a vow to Lord Ganesha after the loss of their three newborn children that they will bring their son to the [[temple]] of Ganapatipule "unclothed" if he is born healthy. However, the vow was left unfulfilled as Vacky's parents died young out of ecstacy of finally being blessed with a healthy son. Shocked at learning this, Bhakti persuades Vacky to fulfill the vow but he soberly disagrees to comply with her wishes for the task being next to impossible. In an attempt of overcome Bhakti's insistence, Vacky and his childhood friend, Kishore ([[Atul Parchure]]), hire a small-time television actor (Satish Tare) to act as powerful sage "Ughade Baba" in front of Bhakti. Ughade Baba instructs Vacky and Bhakti to take a mannequin dressed as Vacky to the temple of Ganapatipule unclothed via [[Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation|state transport]] bus to fulfill the vow and enable themselves to enter parenthood.

On the previous night of Vacky and Bhakti's travel to Ganapatipule, Vacky and Kishore succeed in sneaking such a mannequin at a bus depot into a state transport bus under the backseat. However, they are unaware that after their departure from the bus that night, an international smuggler named Babu Kaalia, who has escaped from prison and has stolen [[diamond]]s worth [[Indian rupee|₹]]80 [[crore]] from the [[Government of India]], had entered the bus and hidden a bag filled with the diamonds in a hollow of the mannequin. Hilarity ensues as the remaining plot of the film focuses on the highs and lows that Vacky and Bhakti face while travelling to Ganapatipule. The bus journey is adventurous with the passengers, a totally mixed bunch, from all over [[Maharashtra]], different personalities, cultures and traditions, are all thrown together for this journey. The bus is in the "control" of bus conductor Lalu ([[Ashok Saraf]]) and bus driver Prasad (Sunil Tawde). En route, Lalu meets [[lavani]] dancer Shevanta ([[Kishori Shahane]]) during a technical problem regarding the bus and falls in love with her when she helps him solve his financial problems.

After the resumption of the journey, however, Lalu is horrified to accidentally see the mannequin under the backseat and wreaks havoc believing it to be a dead body. Despite this, Vacky and Bhakti together manage to convince Lalu and Prasad and the bus passengers that it is a mannequin and not a dead body and its significance for being secretly taken from the bus to Ganapatipule. Nevertheless, upon finally reaching Ganapatipule, the group is shocked to be confronted by the police, who have an evidence that Babu Kaalia is travelling from the bus in disguise in order to escape to [[Dubai]] from the port of Ganapatipule with the diamonds stolen by him. At the same time, a mute passenger ([[Vijay Patkar]]) in the bus is revealed to be an undercover [[inspector]] sent by the police department to identify Babu Kaalia. Throughout the journey, Vacky has been drawing a sketch of Babu Kaalia with the help of another bus passenger (Jaywant Wadkar) having encountered Babu Kaalia earlier. As soon as Vacky completes the sketch, Babu Kaalia (Pradeep Patwardhan) reveals his true identity and holds the entire bus and the police at gunpoint with the demand for the mannequin wherein the diamonds stolen by him are hidden.

At this point, Vacky confesses to Bhakti that the Ughade Baba whom she had met earlier was fake and that he had planned the drama with Kishore in order to avoid fulfilling the bizarre vow. However, Bhakti requests Vacky to take the mannequin to the temple out of her faith and devotion towards their union and Lord Ganesha. Thus, Vacky escapes from the bus with the mannequin and runs towards to the temple while being pursued by the gang of Babu Kaalia, the police and the bus passengers. During the persuasion, all the clothes of Vacky are torn off by the pursuers and is only left in his undergarment by the time he reaches the temple with the mannequin and locks himself inside. While there, Vacky's undergarment also tears off after being entangled with the lock of the door and is delighted to realise that Lord Ganesha himself has indeed fulfilled the vow by making him appear before him unclothed. While Babu Kaalia and his gang are arrested by the police for their crimes, Vacky comes out of the temple in a priest's duplicate clothes and returns the diamonds in the mannequin that were stolen by Babu Kaalia to the police. In the end, Vacky and Bhakti are rewarded with ₹8 crore by the police for nabbing Babu Kaalia and decide to make a vow as well to bring their child "clothed" to the temple of Ganapatipule.

Vakratund ([[Sachin Pilgaonkar]]), also known as Vacky, and Bhakti ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]) are a couple who have got married against Bhakti's parents' wishes. Vacky is a talented artist but has not achieved commercial success while the couple is also not blessed with children despite 10 years of marriage. Soon, Bhakti learns from Vacky's paternal aunt, Atya ([[Nirmiti Sawant]]), that Vacky's parents had made a vow to Lord Ganesha after the loss of their three newborn children that they will bring their son to the [[temple]] of Ganapatipule "unclothed" if he is born healthy. However, the vow was left unfulfilled as Vacky's parents died young out of ecstacy of finally being blessed with a healthy son. Shocked at learning this, Bhakti persuades Vacky to fulfill the vow but he soberly disagrees to comply with her wishes for the task being next to impossible. In an attempt of overcome Bhakti's insistence, Vacky and his childhood friend, Kishore ([[Atul Parchure]]), hire a small-time television actor (Satish Tare) to act as powerful sage "Ughade Baba" in front of Bhakti. On the previous night of Vacky and Bhakti's travel to Ganapatipule, Vacky and Kishore succeed in sneaking such a mannequin at a bus depot into a state transport bus under the backseat. However, they are unaware that after their departure from the bus that night, an international smuggler named Babu Kaalia, who has escaped from prison and has stolen [[diamond]]s worth [[Indian rupee|₹]]80 [[crore]] from the [[Government of India]], had entered the bus and hidden a bag filled with the diamonds in a hollow of the mannequin. Hilarity ensues as the remaining plot of the film focuses on the highs and lows that Vacky and Bhakti face while travelling to Ganapatipule. The bus journey is adventurous with the passengers, a totally mixed bunch, from all over [[Maharashtra]], different personalities, cultures and traditions, are all thrown together for this journey. The bus is in the "control" of bus conductor Lalu ([[Ashok Saraf]]) and bus driver Prasad (Sunil Tawde). En route, Lalu meets [[lavani]] dancer Shevanta ([[Kishori Shahane]]) during a technical problem regarding the bus and falls in love with her when she helps him solve his financial problems.

After the resumption of the journey, however, Lalu is horrified to accidentally see the mannequin under the backseat and wreaks havoc believing it to be a dead body. Despite this, Vacky and Bhakti together manage to convince Lalu and Prasad and the bus passengers that it is a mannequin and not a dead body and its significance for being secretly taken from the bus to Ganapatipule. Nevertheless, upon finally reaching Ganapatipule, the group is shocked to be confronted by the police, who have an evidence that Babu Kaalia is travelling from the bus in disguise in order to escape to [[Dubai]] from the port of Ganapatipule with the diamonds stolen by him. At the same time, a mute passenger ([[Vijay Patkar]]) in the bus is revealed to be an undercover [[inspector]] sent by the police department to identify Babu Kaalia. Throughout the journey, Vacky has been drawing a sketch of Babu Kaalia with the help of another bus passenger (Jaywant Wadkar) having encountered Babu Kaalia earlier. As soon as Vacky completes the sketch, Babu Kaalia (Pradeep Patwardhan) reveals his true identity and holds the entire bus and the police at gunpoint with the demand for the mannequin wherein the diamonds stolen by him are hidden.

At this point, Vacky confesses to Bhakti that the Ughade Baba whom she had met earlier was fake and that he had planned the drama with Kishore in order to avoid fulfilling the bizarre vow. However, Bhakti requests Vacky to take the mannequin to the temple out of her faith and devotion towards their union and Lord Ganesha. Thus, Vacky escapes from the bus with the mannequin and runs towards to the temple while being pursued by the gang of Babu Kaalia, the police and the bus passengers. During the persuasion, all the clothes of Vacky are torn off by the pursuers and is only left in his undergarment by the time he reaches the temple with the mannequin and locks himself inside. While there, Vacky's undergarment also tears off after being entangled with the lock of the door and is delighted to realise that Lord Ganesha himself has indeed fulfilled the vow by making him appear before him unclothed. While Babu Kaalia and his gang are arrested by the police for their crimes, Vacky comes out of the temple in a priest's duplicate clothes and returns the diamonds in the mannequin that were stolen by Babu Kaalia to the police. In the end, Vacky and Bhakti are rewarded with ₹8 crore by the police for nabbing Babu Kaalia and decide to make a vow as well to bring their child "clothed" to the temple of Ganapatipule.

== Plot ==
Ravi Khanna ([[Amitabh Bachchan]]) is a middle-class travel agent leading a simple life with his elderly mother ([[Sulochana Latkar]]), wheelchair-bound sister, Renu ([[Farida Jalal]]) and young brother, Billu (Alankar Joshi), while his girlfriend, Neela Rajvansh ([[Shaan (1980 film)|Parveen Babi]]), is the only daughter of a wealthy businessman ([[D. K. Sapru]]). One morning, at work, Ravi has two unexpected visitors; CID Inspector Khurana ([[Iftekhar]]) and Inspector Kulkarni ([[Jagdish Raj]]), for interrogation regarding the disappearance of a man, Surendra Sinha ([[Rehman (actor)|Rehman]]), who was last seen visiting Ravi's travel agency and was later kidnapped. A flashback shows that Surendra Sinha had come in late on a rainy night, just before closing, to pick up the tickets that had been reserved for him, when Ravi had noticed a large emerald ring on Surendra Sinha's finger as the latter had impatiently tapped the counter while Ravi looked for the ticket. After leaving the premises, there was not a single taxi to be seen by Ravi as it had been raining heavily and that is when Surendra Sinha had offered Ravi a lift in his car till the crossroads near his house. In the present, Ravi is shocked to learn from Khurana that Surendra Sinha's dead body has been just recovered from a gutter, and it is evident that he was murdered the same night he was kidnapped, which is why no one had come forward to claim the initial ransom demand.

Despite Khurana's reassurance that it is quite a routine matter, Ravi is nervous and taken aback for Khurana and Kulkarni taking a keen interest in him since he is the last known person to have seen Surendra Sinha. He believes himself to be having an alibi and decides to seek legal advice from his lawyer friend, Rane (Shiv Kumar), for being a simple man with a family to be taken care of and wanting to do nothing with the police and the courts. However, the stress seems to be triggering severe intense headaches and Ravi ends up at the place of Dr. Shah (Sajjan), where he explains that he has had minor headaches earlier which he had ignored, but the pain has now intensified these past few days. After being sent by Dr. Shah for a brain X-Ray, the shocking diagnosis is far more serious than tension as Ravi has a brain tumour that needs to be removed and if not, will cause his death in six months. Ravi is willing to do anything for his family, even have himself operated upon, but Dr. Shah has a few caveats that the brain surgery could cure him completely, while there is no guarantee that he will not be blind over even paraplegic as its outcomes. Ravi is aghast as he is the sole provider to his family and cannot contemplate a life where he becomes a dependent, so he leaves without making a decision when the choices are death and a life worse than death. Ravi returns home, deep in thought, and his family's affection and their implicit trust in his ability to take care of them only serve to increase his conflict.

At the same time, Ravi receives the interesting news of Surendra Sinha's grieving younger brother, Narendra Sinha ([[Satyen Kappu]]), having announced a handsome reward of five [[lakh]] [[Indian rupee|rupees]] for any information about his brother's killer. In an effort to better his family's financial conditions after him, Ravi telephones Inspector Khurana at the police station without revealing his identity and poses as an informer about Surendra Sinha's murder,in a scheme to frame "himself" as the murderer and collect the reward money for his family, believing that he has nothing to lose and is going to die in six months nevertheless. Inspector Khurana speaks to Narendra Sinha about the anonymous telephone call, and tells him that the reward money has to be paid to a lawyer whom the caller suggests, while a sealed envelope will be also deposited with the same lawyer. Once the money is paid, the caller will inform the police over the telephone who the killer is and will provide the evidence as well. Narendra Sinha is willing to go through with the proposal. Now that his proposal has been accepted, Ravi meticulously sets the stage, even leaving sealed instructions and a cover letter with Rane, who is rather bewildered at all the cloak-and-dagger stuff, until Inspector Khurana telephones him to confirm that the money mentioned in the covering letter will be entrusted to him.

Acting upon the received information, Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni recover the evidence that Ravi has created against himself and it is sent to the laboratory for fingerprint testing. Soon, Ravi is arrested by Inspector Kulkarni for the murder of Surendra Sinha and is sentenced to death for the crime by the [[Supreme Court of India]], much to the consternation of his family, and that of Neela and her father. While Neela and Ravi's mother try to make some sense of Ravi's confession, also approach Narendra Sinha to beg for clemency, Ravi is in prison awaiting his execution, and his another intense headache results in him being rushed to the government hospital by Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni, where, serendipitously, it is Dr. Shah who examines him. Knowing Ravi's medical history, Dr. Shah wastes no time in getting him into the operation theatre, and the brain surgery is successful, but Dr. Shah is shattered to learn that he saved the patient on the operating table only to see him hung for murder. Well-aware of having condemned himself to be hung for a murder he did not commit, Ravi, during a permitted meeting with Neela and Rane at the hospital, asks Rane if he could appeal and tell the truth in the court as the envelope he left anonymously in his care will confirm his story after all. However, Rane's response tells Ravi that he is his friend as well as his lawyer, so the court would not believe anything he says, and that the only way for him to escape the consequences of his ill-advised actions is to now find the real murderer of Surendra Sinha.

In an attempt to save himself from going to the gallows, Ravi succeeds in escaping from the hospital in search of the real killer and is aided by Neela in his pursuit. As part of his mission, Ravi investigates the significant ring of Surendra Sinha that could lead back to the killer and experiences the arrival of Michael D'Souza ([[Pran]]), a kind-hearted and happy-go-lucky small-time thief, from his own logical procedural thinking. On learning of Ravi's plight, Michael pledges to help Ravi nab the real culprit as he is the sole witness to Surendra Sinha's murder. On the fateful rainy night, Michael had threatened the driver of a car at gunpoint and had grabbed the same costly ring from him, unmindful of the fact that it belonged to the already dead Surendra Sinha on the backseat. Michael's endeavour to identify the murderer later takes him to Surendra Sinha's house where he runs into the murderer and sets up a meeting point to settle the issue. The climax alternates between a grievously injured Michael holding the murderer at gunpoint at the meeting point, accompanied by Neela, while Ravi drives desperately to get a doctor back in time. In the end, the real killer of Surendra Sinha is surprisingly revealed to be his own brother, Narendra Sinha, and Ravi becomes a free man but not without Michael paying a heavy price in managing to solve the mystery.

== Plot ==
Ravi Khanna ([[Amitabh Bachchan]]) is a middle-class travel agent leading a simple life with his elderly mother ([[Sulochana Latkar]]), wheelchair-bound sister, Renu ([[Farida Jalal]]) and young brother, Billu (Alankar Joshi), and is also due to get married with his girlfriend, Neela Rajvansh ([[Shaan (1980 film)|Parveen Babi]]). One rainy night, one of his clients, Surendra Sinha ([[Rehman (actor)|Rehman]]), visits Ravi's travel agency to pick up the tickets that have been reserved for him when Ravi notices a large [[emerald]] ring on his finger as Surendra Sinha impatiently taps on the counter. After leaving the premises, Surendra Sinha offers Ravi a lift in his car till the crossroads near Ravi's house as there is not a single taxi to be seen. Some time later, two detectives, CID Inspector Khurana ([[Iftekhar]]) and Inspector Kulkarni ([[Jagdish Raj]]), come to interrogate Ravi at the travel agency as Surendra Sinha was apparently abducted that night and his dead body was later shockingly recovered from a gutter. Ravi is innocent, but nervous as Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni are taking a keen interest in him since he is the last known person to have seen Surendra Sinha. He decides to seek legal advice from his lawyer friend, Rane (Shiv Kumar), for being a simple man with a family to be taken care of and wanting to do nothing with the police and the courts.

However, the stress seems to be triggering severe intense headaches and Ravi ends up at the place of Dr. Shah (Sajjan), where he explains that he has had minor headaches earlier which he had ignored, but the pain has now intensified these past few days. After being sent by Dr. Shah for a brain X-Ray, the shocking diagnosis is far more serious than tension as Ravi has a brain tumour that needs to be removed and if not, will cause his death in six months. Ravi is willing to do anything for his family, even have himself operated upon, but Dr. Shah has a few caveats that the brain surgery could cure him completely, while there is no guarantee that he will not be blind over even paraplegic as its outcomes. Ravi is aghast as he is the sole provider to his family and cannot contemplate a life where he becomes a dependent, so he leaves without making a decision when the choices are death and a life worse than death. Ravi returns home, deep in thought, and his family's affection and their implicit trust in his ability to take care of them only serve to increase his conflict. At the same time, Ravi receives the interesting news of Surendra Sinha's grieving younger brother, Narendra Sinha ([[Satyen Kappu]]), having announced a handsome reward of five [[lakh]] [[Indian rupee|rupees]] for any information about his brother's killer.

In an effort to better his family's financial conditions after him, Ravi telephones Inspector Khurana at the police station without revealing his identity and poses as an informer about Surendra Sinha's murder,in a scheme to frame "himself" as the murderer and collect the reward money for his family, believing that he has nothing to lose and is going to die in six months nevertheless. Inspector Khurana speaks to Narendra Sinha about the anonymous telephone call, and tells him that the reward money has to be paid to a lawyer whom the caller suggests, while a sealed envelope will be also deposited with the same lawyer. Once the money is paid, the caller will inform the police over the telephone who the killer is and will provide the evidence as well. Narendra Sinha is willing to go through with the proposal. Now that his proposal has been accepted, Ravi meticulously sets the stage, even leaving sealed instructions and a cover letter with Rane, who is rather bewildered at all the cloak-and-dagger stuff, until Inspector Khurana telephones him to confirm that the money mentioned in the covering letter will be entrusted to him. Acting upon the received information, Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni recover the evidence that Ravi has created against himself and it is sent to the laboratory for fingerprint testing.

Soon, Ravi is arrested by Inspector Kulkarni for the murder of Surendra Sinha and is sentenced to death for the crime by the [[Supreme Court of India]], much to the consternation of his family, and that of Neela and her father ([[D. K. Sapru]]). While Neela and Ravi's mother try to make some sense of Ravi's confession, also approach Narendra Sinha to beg for clemency, Ravi is in prison awaiting his execution, and his another intense headache results in him being rushed to the government hospital by Inspector Khurana and Inspector Kulkarni, where, serendipitously, it is Dr. Shah who examines him. Knowing Ravi's medical history, Dr. Shah wastes no time in getting him into the operation theatre, and the brain surgery is successful, but Dr. Shah is shattered to learn that he saved the patient on the operating table only to see him hung for murder. Well-aware of having condemned himself to be hung for a murder he did not commit, Ravi, during a permitted meeting with Neela and Rane at the hospital, asks Rane if he could appeal and tell the truth in the court as the envelope he left anonymously in his care will confirm his story after all. However, Rane's response tells Ravi that he is his friend as well as his lawyer, so the court would not believe anything he says, and that the only way for him to escape the consequences of his ill-advised actions is to now find the real murderer of Surendra Sinha.

In an attempt to save himself from going to the gallows, Ravi succeeds in escaping from the hospital in search of the real killer and is aided by Neela in his pursuit. As part of his mission, Ravi investigates the significant ring of Surendra Sinha that could lead back to the killer, and experiences the arrival of Michael D'Souza ([[Pran]]) from his own logical procedural thinking. Michael is a kind-hearted and happy-go-lucky small-time thief, who pledges to help Ravi nab the real culprit on learning of his plight. On the fateful rainy night, Michael had threatened the driver of a car at gunpoint and had grabbed the same costly ring from him, unmindful of the fact that it belonged to the already dead Surendra Sinha on the backseat. Michael's endeavour later takes him to Surendra Sinha's house where he runs into the murderer and sets up a meeting point by the riverside in the hills of [[Maharashtra]] to settle the issue. The climax alternates between a grievously injured Michael holding the murderer at gunpoint at the meeting point, accompanied by Neela, while Ravi drives desperately to get a doctor back in time. In the end, the real killer of Surendra Sinha is surprisingly revealed to be his own brother, Narendra Sinha, and Ravi becomes a free man but not without Michael paying a heavy price in managing to solve the mystery.
