== Synopsis ==
Shaku ([[Supriya Pilgaonkar]]), a sober but adamant girl orphaned by fate, lives with her maternal uncle, Damodar ([[Gammat Jammat|Suhas Bhalekar]]), a bachelor, in a slum. Her sole dream is to marry a millionaire as according to her, a girl is granted only one chance to change her name and financial conditions and that is after her marriage. Damodar works as a domestic worker for Mr. Lakshmidhar Kuber ([[Nilu Phule]]), a renowned industrialist. Mr. Kuber's only son, Narendra ([[Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi|Sachin Pilgaonkar]]), also known as Naren, has just returned from USA after completing his studies. At a grand party organized by Mr. Kuber for his son's homecoming, Shaku accompanies Damodar for help in the chores where Naren shares his views about marriage with his friends. Naren's only condition is that he will marry a young widow, which is overheard by Shaku. With the help of Tatya Malvankar ([[Macchindra Kambli]]), a theatre costume lender and Damodar's friend, Shaku enters the Kuber residence as a reclusive, young widow named "Saudamini". Using her theatrical antics, she soon wins over the hearts of Naren and his mother, Mrs. Kuber ([[Gol Maal|Shubha Khote]]), who both request her to stay more at the house. As days go by, Naren falls in love with "Saudamini" but Mr. Kuber demands her late husband's photograph. Again with the help of Tatya Malvankar, Shaku shows the Kuber family the photograph of an aspiring theatre actor dressed in a military uniform as her late husband and tells his name as "Captain Bajirao Rangade". The aspiring theatre actor whose photograph Shaku had shown to Mr. Kuber is Dinkar Luktuke ([[Ashok Saraf]]), an employee for Mr. Kuber's childhood friend, Mr. Gajanan Deshmukh ([[Jayram Kulkarni|Jairam Kulkarni]]), while also secretly in love with Mr. Deshmukh's only daughter, Hema ([[Kishori Shahane]]). However, Mr. Kuber had previously asked Mr. Deshmukh for Hema's hand in marriage for Naren. One day, when Mr. Kuber visits Mr. Deshmukh at his office, he bumps into Luktuke and recognizes him as the "late Captain Bajirao Rangade" from the photograph shown by Shaku.
